What do you think are the top 6 issues concerning India?

This is what I view as the top 6 issues concerning our nation(India) today. I want to base my opinion on some of the basic tenete on which i believe a healthy and progressive nation is based. These fundamental blocks for me are (in no particular order)
1. Free and Liberated minds
2. Healthy citizens
3. Leadership and vision to lead the nation
4. Justice to all
5. Peace and Harmony
6. Robust economy governed by fair and inclusive system

Keeping the above in mind, I would suggest the following issues which needs to tackled with urgency.

1. Education.
1.1 Need for bigger, better and more number of par excellence institutes of higher learning for science, commerce as well as arts.
1.2 Need Quality primary education for all

2. Health. Need Better health and sanitation facilities. Interestingly over 30% of doctors in the USA are Indians while we all know the plight of health in India!

3. Leadership. There is big void of strong leadership and a visionary in the political arena. In fact I wonder who in the long history of indian civilization could have played the role of such a leader. What's your opinion on this? Vallabh Bhai Patel? Ashoka? What kinda leader do you want to have for your country? Opinons welcome...

4. Courts. We need higher number of courts with a stronger machinery to monitor court proceedings. We have nearly 30 million cases pending in our courts! Justice is absolutely fundamental for the well being of citizens and nation.

5. Terrorism. Well I don't know how to deal with core fanatics who irrespctive of being educated or not, having a family or not, having a job or not, et al... behave in certain unacceptable ways. But many of their followers (who make d majority of the number) are not like them. But still they have enough "time" to get into other people's business rather than minding their own. Perhaps inclusive growth is one small step to styme the growth of such followers at least.

6. Tax System. Tax system is just one among many systems which plays a major role in the way our economy works. Our tax system is still incapabale of bringing tax evading companies/people to books. We lose billions of rupees every year because of it, thus creating a handicapped gov. with a burden of consistent budget deficit. Fixing the tax system can be the key to many other lingering issues which the gov. can't handle due to lack of resources. Overhaul and reforms in this field has to be a part of bigger effort to enlist citizens, companies (listed, unlisted, SME, etc, etc)... We need to bring every person (social security no.) , every transaction, every biz, to books at which we r way behind. Even small SMEs save crores of rupees every year by evading taxes! This is an aspect which has never been given enough importance. But we need to, sooner than later.

Your thoughts welcome... Pls write what in your opinion r the top issues being faced by India...

  1. I agree with all the six issues being very important in the present context that our country faces. However, I try to categorize them into primary and secondary issues then there are two more issues I would like to add to the list.

    Primary:
    1. Education/Illiteracy (Encouraging meritocracy)
    2. POVERTY AND UNEMPLOYMENT
    3. INFRASTRUCTURE (Electricity, Water, Roads etc)
    4. Terrorism: External (Pakistan) as well as Internal (Maoists, Naxalites, Sri Ram Sena etc)

    Secondary:
    1. Health System
    2. Leadership (encouraging young and intellectual leaders instead of criminals)
    3. Judiciary
    4. Economic discipline (widening tax net, removing unnecessary subsidies and loan waivers)

  2. I think there is overall just one big fat key issue, which I thought you had outlined in the 1st point which was "Free and Liberated Minds" but apparently you didn't describe it as I perceive...
The way I see and feel is: people don't really know what to do with lives, or how to improve qualities of their lives or at least strive towards it.. people are very fatalistic, with roots in religion and philosophy but also because of no faith in the system of the country... Apparently it's a democracy but people definitely don't know what that means... Look at the number of people voting or the kind of people we choose as our leaders...

So that's the biggest issue, people don't understand they are responsible and have the power to change their own lives... India is sleeping, and it's not lack of education definitely not... I know many educated people, many of my classmates from previous years, seniors juniors, officemates... engineers, MBAs, Doctors, professors.... people from the so called 'elite' who don't know or care at all about where the country the country is going or what is their role in all of this... So it's not education that can or would solve this issue, it has to be addressed on a cultural level... It has to come as a revolution... And the problem is to cause even a ripple in a country the size of India, you will have to do something so big that you virtually can't do it...

we are too big and too different in segments to respond to the same stimulus ...

I have to leave the problem unsolved and open for discussion on the house here...

@ Bhasker, Great start boss... really appreciate the effort... :)

  3. @Ash... very well said buddy... yes u r right... what i meant by free and liberated mind isn't completely addressed by education... specially the current system of education... but i wrote it bcos of two things...
    1. Education can b d first step forward... surely not in d way we got it... but even the scenario u r talking abt can b reached thru real education (surely not wot we studied)
    2. lack of time n i didnt want to go deep into d subject... bcos it's a huge topic in itself... but good point raised...

n btw which effort??? effort on this article or did u see d rest of it???

  4. Hello Sir,

I am completely agreed with your points. As per my view India’s major issues are

    Primary:

1.Education : Lack of knowledge about present world, satisfied approach toward life, blind follower mentality, creating resistance for every new things and unscientific approach is major hindrance for India progress and this will only remove with well, real world and scientific education. The Education which produce good job, good mentality in human being and more scientific in every scenario so it’s one of the basic need to improve study material of every stream and create it more contemporary. I think primary education should be must for every Indian.
    2. Polatical system: I am very much inspired American system (Two national parties for complete nation) so more filtered and eligible candidate goes to Indian Parliament and a basic level of education is must for all diplomats.
    3. Judiciary system: Here a lot to do this field and need to create it more time oriented, punctual, less money oriented and justify.
    4. Internal security: There is lot of problem in internal security based on religion, development, migrants, unsatisfied people and from neighbor country .I thinks a lot of them only rose from some leader who do all these for only their own benefit, we need to improve our internal security via more modernize security person, latest equipment for them, good communication system, State of art information sharing system etc.
    5. Agreeculture: India is agriculture based country but former of India is still poor so it’s our basic need to improve in this field so money flow goes to these formers.
    6. Infrastructure: India is very much lacking in this field (Electric, water, road, transport, bridges, railway, metropolitan management, irrigation etc) not exactly in term of money, technology or related things but in terms of willingness to take big decision, big risk.

Apart form all these there are some secondary problem
    • Bureaucracy of India
    • Reservation system
    • Health system
    • Unemployment( this will also remove as we heal major problem)
    • Brain drain
    • Negligence for sports
    • Mentality for women’s
    • Corruption and scam
    • Piracy of intellectual property
    • Income tax collection
    • State oriented politics
    • Modernization of old system (External security, Railway etc)
    • Water conservation
    • Consumption of fuel
    • Garbage management
    • Add people to main stream of nation
